On Thursday, singer/songwriter Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and husband Peter Wentz (bassist for pop-funk group Fall Out Boy) became first-time parents to a healthy baby boy. Bronx Mowgli Wentz was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles weighing 7lbs. 11ozs.
There has been no mention of why the moniker Bronx was chosen, however, Mowgli is the name of a character in “In the Rukh,” a short story by Rudyard Kipling and is best known for being the lead in the
animated film, “The Jungle Book,” which was inspired by Kipling’s work.
In preparation for the baby, new aunt Jessica Simpson held a Winnie-the-Pooh themed baby shower for her sister at Hotel Bel-Air about three weeks ago.
Both Ashlee and Bronx are said to be healthy and happy. Congratulations!

When a woman thinks she may be pregnant, choosing the most accurate pregnancy test on store shelves suddenly becomes a top priority. But, which of the many brands in front of you has a proven track record of accurately detecting early pregnancy?
The University of New Mexico at Albuquerque conducted a series of studies concerning the accuracy of 18 at-home pregnancy tests. Researchers found that most of the tests were not sensitive enough for early detection as soon as one to 1-2 days after a missed menstrual cycle. Here are the results of their findings:
FIRST PLACE: First Response Early Result Accurately detected pregnancy in 95% of women on the first and second day after a missed period.
SECOND PLACE: Clearblue Easy In a follow-up study, Clearblue Easy accurately detected 80% of pregnancies.
As for the MOST accurate pregnancy test of all – a blood test at your doctor's office.

Surprisingly, washing your plastic baby bottles may lead to long term health problems for your infant! We use the term may as there has been controversy in whether Bisphenol-A, a chemical found in most polycarbonate products, has long-term, damaging effects to babies exposed to it. This chemical is commonly released under high temperatures, such as those associated with sterilization – a common cleaning procedure used by many new moms. Not all plastic bottles contain this potentially harmful chemical. Some bottles state "Bisphenol-A Free" on their labels and some countries, such as Canada, prohibit the sale of plastic bottles containing this chemical altogether. Either way, properly washing and drying your plastic bottles can help reduce chemical exposure to your baby. Here's how:
- Fill half a sink with warm water and add a small amount of soap. Soak bottles and nipples for approximately ten minutes.
- Use a bottle brush to thoroughly scrub the inside of both the bottles and nipples.
- Use a clean dishcloth to clean the outside of the bottle. (NOTE: Sponges easily harbor bacteria and should never be used to clean your bottles.)
- Rinse the bottles, nipples and caps with warm water. Allow them to air dry on a drying rack.
Seems washing plastic baby bottles the old fashioned way is still the safest for your baby's health!

On Saturday, August 8, 2008, Clay Aiken and good friend Jaymes Foster (sister to music legend David Foster) welcomed a 6 pound 2 ounce baby boy into the world. Parker Foster Aiken was born at a hospital in North Carolina at 8:08am.
Parker was chosen as the boy's first name as it was the surname of Aiken's late stepfather whom he recognizes as helping to raise him. His middle name comes from his mother's surname.
Although the proud parents are not romantically involved, the two have plans to raise the baby together. Foster is believed to be close to fifty years old and both she and the baby are said to be doing well.
Congratulations!

Most expecting parents will either have received numerous pacifiers at baby showers or new parent seminars, or have bought their own in preparation for the arrival of their new baby. By the time your baby comes home, you will most likely have several scattered around the house, in the nursery, in your diaper bag and purse, and in your car. Pacifiers are a quick and easy way to:
- help soothe a fussy baby
- distract your baby's attention
- help babies fall to sleep
However, as with most great things, there are some drawbacks. Here are a few of the disadvantages when using pacifiers:
- may interfere with breast-feeding if the pacifier is used too early
- the baby may become dependent on the pacifier
- may increase the risk of middle ear infections
- may lead to future dental problems
Read the article Pacifiers 101 - Tips and Tricks to help avoid some of the drawbacks listed above and to learn what you can do to make your baby's pacifier experience a happy and healthy one.

New parents are extremely conscious of the dangers that surround their child: possible sudden infant death syndrome, small objects that can become potential choking hazards, cabinets that can easily be opened, stairs that can be tumbled down and furniture with sharp corners. These are a few of the many situations that parents try to prevent for the safety of their new child, however, some hazards are not as apparent as others.
One of the most surprising baby dangers is the use of an electrical baby wipe warmer. I'm sure your little one would much rather enjoy the comforts of a cozy and warm wipe as opposed to a cold, wet wipe in the middle of the night, however, such a device should be used with caution.
There have been several baby wipe warmer manufacturers that have had their products recalled by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission after cracks in their interior tubs caused water and the unit's electrical components to come into contact. Dex Wipe Warmers, manufactured by Halcyon WaterSpring in Ontario, Canada, was recalled in 1997. There were six incidents reported of the unit melting and one alleged fire. Approximately 536,000 Dex Wipe Warmers had been sold. In March 2000, Advance Thermo Control (ATC) of Hong Kong voluntarily recalled 152,000 of their baby wipe warmers that had been distributed by Prince Lionheart Inc of Santa Maria, California. Prince Lionheart received four reports of units with cracked tubs that caused electric shocks when the encased wipes were touched.
So, do your research before purchasing new products for your baby and your home. Search the internet and visit some of the many product recall sites that are available for free. It may prove to be life saving.

Shedding postpartum pounds requires exercise and proper attention to your diet. However, for those who enjoy walking, bringing along your baby can increase calories burned by 20% if you push your little one in a stroller at 3.5 miles per hour faster than you would normally walk on your own. Gradually increasing your distance will also help you to shed weight more quickly. To monitor your progress, wear a pedometer to keep track of your step count or you can opt for a Strollometer, a wireless pedometer that is made to attach to strollers that keeps track of your speed, time an distance. Many moms incorporate walking lunges into their stroller walking programs. Others perform periodic calf raises, rolling to the ball of each foot before taking the next step.
Do you have additional exercises or tips that you incorporate into your stroller walking excursions to help shed off unwanted baby weight?

It seems there is a new phenomenon that is taking place in home bathrooms around the world. One that our mothers were not able to take part in. This huge movement gains speed with each appearance of a tiny little line. The tiny little line on a pregnancy test strip that says yes, you're pregnant! As more and more at-home pregnancy tests become the initial indication of successful conceptions, new mothers-to-be are opting to keep their positive pregnancy test strips as a keepsake of their joyous moment. This new trend is partially due to the ease and availability of over-the-counter pregnancy tests that can be done in the privacy of your own home and, not to mention, at your own convenience. The question is, would you keep your pregnancy test strip or would you discard it?
Many women safely store their positive (and sometimes negative) pregnancy strips in keepsake boxes while others gently place them on the first page of a newly purchased baby scrapbook. Although the results on the strip may fade over time, many women write the date they took the test on the strip to at least remember the day the news was delivered in case the results don't stand the test of time.
BabyBobbi.com wants to know if you would keep, or have kept, your pregnancy strips? If you have kept them, have the results withstood the test of time? Where do you keep them? Did you try to clean them or did you store them as they were for fear of "erasing" your results? Did you do anything special in efforts to preserve the result line (laminate the strip, etc)?

No matter the size of your baby, all babies are bony – or at least when it comes to bone count! Did you know that babies are born with over 300 bones in their compact, little bodies yet adults have only 206 bones? This is due to the fact that babies have a high amount of cartilage in their bones that will later harden into bone material, fusing separate bones together into one, single bone. A baby's skull, for example, has spacing between the bones that essentially make the birthing process safer and easier. As the baby develops, these spaces will close together to form a unified skull. It is through this process that the number of individual bones in a child's body decreases as he or she gets older. Therefore, the truth lies in bone count – even chubby babies are, literally, bony!

In addition to religion, sound, meaning and origin, name numerology has become another factor that many new parents are considering when deciding on their baby's name. Name numerology is described as both a science and an art as its foundation is based on the belief that everything in the universe is based on numbers.
Using Pythagorean name numerology, each letter of the alphabet is assigned a number. Using simple addition, this system adds all the numbers that make up the anticipated first, middle and last name of the child. The final two-digit number is further calculated to form one single-digit number. This number will be the "Destiny Number" of your child and, with it, numerologists can interpret what the future holds for him or her. Interesting to say the least!
Read our full article on name numerology with instructions on how to find your child's Destiny Number. Maybe he or she will be one of the unique individuals who's Destiny Number is actually a "Master Number"...

It is called "momnesia" and scientists agree that it actually exists. Momnesia is the state of confusion and mental fuzziness that affects new mothers. Putting shoes on the wrong feet, forgetting where you are driving to, and leaving groceries at the store are all classic signs of momnesia.
Dr. Louann Brizendine, author of the book "The Female Brain," states that the condition is induced by fluctuating hormones that accompany pregnancy, childbirth and breast-feeding. These wild fluctuations alter a woman's brain chemistry and causes an inability to focus as clearly as she once did.
Other contributing factors leading to momnesia include a lack of sleep and brain overload from studious efforts to be as prepared as possible, particularly for the birth of one's first child.
Taking notes and writing everything down is the best form of management for momnesia. Eventually, it will subside on its own; however, until then, new moms can rightfully blame embarrassing forgetfulness and confusion on their "condition"...
