Name Numerology May Give Your Baby An Edge

Before a baby is born, parents-to-be begin their search for the perfect baby name. Although a number of factors including religion, geographical location, origin, name meaning and sound are almost always considered first, many people are finding themselves determined to give their baby an edge by introducing name numerology into their list of considerations. Is there an edge to taking baby naming this far? The answers you find will vary, however, will your child suffer if you choose to overlook it?


What is Name Numerology?
Name numerology is explained as both a science and an art. It states that everything in our universe has an energetic vibration that contains certain properties. Each number has its own vibration and each letter of the alphabet has a number value with this vibration in it. Therefore, given names contain particular energetic vibrations that are believed to affect a baby's personal development.  

Name numerology converts given names into numbers, using basic mathematics to produce a single-digit "Destiny Number," and then interprets what that number means about a person's inner nature, strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, and more. Its foundation is the belief that everything in the universe is based on numbers.


Name Numerology Types
There are two main types of name numerology: Pythagorean and Chaldean. Pythagorean is the more popular form of name numerology as it is easier to learn; however, Chaldean is arguably more accurate. In both systems, the meaning of one's Destiny Number is basically the same, however, the numerical values assigned to each letter is different. This article will focus on the popular Pythagorean name numerology system.


How Name Numerology Mathematics Works
Name numerology involves simple addition to arrive at a final, single-digit Destiny Number with the exception of the numbers 11 and 22 (discussed below).  Two-digit numbers can be made into single-digit numbers by viewing each of the two numbers as individual numbers rather than as a whole. For example:

21  =  2 + 1  =  3

In this example, the two-digit number 21 was divided into two numbers (2 and 1). These two numbers were added together to form a single-digit number (3).


Name Numerology Master Numbers 11 and 22
The numbers 11 and 22 are considered Master Numbers in name numerology. The number 22, also referred to as the "Master Builder," is the most powerful of all of the personal numbers. Although many believe there are other Master Numbers such as 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88 and 99, most numerologists will only recognize 11 and 22.


How to Apply Pythagorean Name Numerology
Each letter in the alphabet is assigned a numeric value. Using the full name of a person as seen on their birth certificate (no nicknames), find the numerical value for each letter. Below is a name numerology chart that can be used to identify these values. For example A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4 and so on.

EXAMPLE:
Birth Name:  John Edward Doe

JOHN = (1 + 6 + 8 + 5) = 20

EDWARD = (5 + 4 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 4)  = 28

DOE = (4 + 6 + 5)  = 15


Next, add all three totals together.

20 + 28 + 15 = 63


The final step is the convert the two-digit number into a one-digit number by simply adding the two digits together.

63 = 6 + 3 = 9

The final Destiny Number for this name is 9.


Destiny Number Meanings in Name Numerology
Destiny Numbers calculated from a person's birth name reveal characteristics about that person. Below are the personality traits relative to each Destiny Number:

Whether or not one believes there is value in name numerology, it is certainly something to consider when searching for the perfect baby name. After all, James Paul McCartney's (Beatles band member) Master Number of 22 certainly didn't hold him back!
